What are the requirements for CHSPE?
A person may take the CHSPE only if he or she meets one of the following requirements on the test date:
- He or she is at least 16 years old, or.
- He or she has been enrolled in the tenth grade for one academic year or longer, or.

Is the CHSPE exam difficult?
CHSPE is generally considered a bit more difficult than the GED examination, but I’m sure there are other differences. You can take the test in sections; once you pass a section (e.g. math), you don’t have to take that section again, even if you do not pass the other sections. The total test is about 10 hours long.

While the CHSPE is a shorter test and includes fewer subjects, the GED offers more scheduling options. Which is easier GED or CHSPE?
It depends. The CHSPE includes only 2 subjects, so it’s less to learn than for the GED test. But there are also fewer preparation materials. So while the CHSPE comes with fewer subject tests and is shorter, the GED exam offers many more scheduling options and many free prep courses.

For the 2021–22 administration year, the CHSPE will be offered at statewide locations, but the offerings may be limited because of local and state COVID-19 restrictions. Local testing dates will be within the proposed testing windows but will be dependent on each site’s local requirements.
