Is Waterton worth visiting?
There are many incredible National Parks in Canada like Banff, Jasper, and Yoho, but in my opinion, Waterton is one of the best places to go in Canada, simply because it is still so unspoiled by overtourism, and has some of the best lakes in Canada.
How many days do you need at Waterton National Park?
I definitely could have used more time to relax and hike some of the surrounding peaks, but two nights left me with a good taste of what Waterton had to offer. Ideally, I would recommend visitors spend at least three days in the park.
Does Waterton have a beach?
Emerald Bay (in the community) is the most popular spot for swimming. The beach near the Townsite campground is also used but tends to be windier. The Marquis Hole picnic site along the Waterton River is also a popular spot for swimming.

Aside from having some of the best hikes in the Rocky Mountains, Waterton is also a great spot for camping and other activities. If you’re already willing to drive to Jasper, then Waterton National Park is a closer and (in my opinion) better option for those of you who live in Calgary.

On the very hottest summer days in Waterton Lakes National Park, swimming is possible in the waters of Emerald Bay, on the edge of the town, but be aware that the water is very cold and the lake floor drops away quickly.

The park offers some excellent opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding – particularly on hot, calm summer days. All park waters are very cold. More experienced paddlers can head to the south end of Upper Waterton Lake and cross the international boundary into Glacier National Park.
