How hot does Cummins exhaust get?
Under full load, most Cummins engines produce exhaust temperatures in the cylinder about 1300 degF or so, on the engine dynamometer.
How hot is too hot for diesel exhaust?
The absolute maximum safe EGT range is debatable. Our universal rule of thumb, regardless of engine make/model/year, is to not exceed 1250° F and not to operate in the 1200° F – 1250° F range for an extended period of time.
What temperature is too hot for a diesel engine?
You can run up to 220°F all day long without any problems. The fluid will last a long, long time at that temperature. You can run up to 250°F for up to a half hour at a time. Above 250°F you should find a safe place to stop and idle or fast idle in park or neutral to cool the trans.
What is the max EGT for Cummins?
The peak number is the most important while towing, the ISB can be safely run up to 1450 for short bursts and 1350 all day long. This number is strongly affected by modifications weather it be Air flow or Fuel delivery.
What’s a safe EGT Cummins?
The optimal safe “sustained” EGT is no more than 1250*. Short bursts a little over that temp is OK but for no more than seconds. Most people will do their best to keep the EGT’s no more than 1200*. Click to expand…
What is the highest recommended pyrometer temperature?
It depends on where the pyrometer is sensing. If you install pre-turbo then your safe point is a maximum of 1200 F or so, (it doesn’t vary between engines much as it’s based on the melting point of the aluminum pistons).
How hot is too hot for EGTS?
We have a self-imposed limit of 1,600 degrees while racing, and 1,200 degrees while towing. Any higher than that, and we’ll look to water injection, intercooling, nitrous, or using less throttle to cool things down. Exhaust gas temperature is a funny thing.
What temp should a 5.9 Cummins run at?
Registered. If it is around 195+ you are OK a diesel needs to run around 200 to get the most from your fuel.
What is the max EGT for 6.7 Cummins?
For pre-turbo the max you want to sustain is around 1200-1250°F. You can spike it up to 1600°F on a 6.7 no problem but I wouldn’t keep it there long at all. I personally have my warning set for 1400° but watch my gauge when towing uphill to keep it at the 1200°F mark.
What temperature should a Dodge Cummins be?
The thermostat starts to open at around 190° and is fully opened at around 200°F. Per Cummins Quickserve Service Manual 6.7L Specs, standard coolant temps should be between 186-207°F, and maximum is 225°F.
Are there any issues with the Cummins ISL 9L?
The CUMMINS isl is a very good engine, at our shop we have had very little major engine issues before the 400,000 mile range. When you get to 400,000-500,000 it will definitely need an over haul. But to more answer your question the issues before that mileage has been water pumps, air compressors, and on a rare occasion an injector or 2.
What happens when an ISL 9L engine goes into Regen?
When the engine goes into regen, the exhaust temp will exceed 1000 degrees Fahrenheit (don’t know the cel. equivalent, lol). With this temp it will break down the oil lubricity causing more friction on the internal components, which will cause more heat, more heat causes more wear, more wear causes engine rebuild soon than needed.
What does Hg low mean on Cummins ISX CM871?
Intake manifold pressure – 10-14″ Hg – Low could indicate boost or air to air leaks. Percent load – less than 2% (with the fan off) I’ve seen most regens fail with this at 5% or higher. This is also what is near 0% with a cold engine and 5-7% with a hot engine.
Is the ISL 9L cooler no longer available?
This is a known ISL problem. Cummins no longer offers the ISL EGR cooler. In its place they offer the ISX cooler and an adapter kit. Plan on $4.5K if unit has an EGR cooler and it has not been replaced. Full time and loving it!
