What is positive position?
The terminology positive position is derived from the fact that the position measurement is positively fed into the compensator and the position signal from the compensator is positively fed back to the structure. This property makes the PPF controller very suitable for collocated actuator/sensor pairs.
Does position have a direction?
Position is a vector because direction matters. But distance is a scalar.
What is the difference between position and direction?
As nouns the difference between position and direction is that position is a place or location while direction is the action of directing; pointing (something) or looking towards.
Does distance have direction?
Distance traveled is the total length of the path traveled between two positions. Distance has no direction and, thus, no sign.
Does speed have direction?
Speed is a scalar quantity and does not keep track of direction; velocity is a vector quantity and is direction aware.
Does distance have magnitude and direction?
Distance is an example of a scalar quantity. A vector is any quantity with both magnitude and direction. Other examples of vectors include a velocity of 90 km/h east and a force of 500 newtons straight down.
Can the distance an object travels be negative?
Distance traveled is the total length of the path traveled between two positions. Distance traveled is not a vector. It has no direction and, thus, no negative sign. It is important to note that the distance traveled does not have to equal the magnitude of the displacement (i.e., distance between the two points).
