Is Core i7 outdated?
Intel’s Core i7 is a couple generations old now but it’s still a solid gaming CPU. It was superseded by the Core i7 9700K and a new entry in the CPU stack, the Core i9 9900K. Now even they have been replaced with the brand new Core i7 10700K and Core i9 10900K.

The 8700 is one of the best gaming chip atm with good future proofing. The price is right, 10 euro cheaper than the 2700 which does have 2 more cores but 3-400 mhz less (about 200 mhz more if you oc both), but those cores are not much help for now in gaming, and probably will take quite a few years until they do.
