What is the drug Emend used for?
Aprepitant is used with other medications to help prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer drug treatment (chemotherapy). Aprepitant works by blocking one of the body’s natural substances (substance P/neurokinin 1) that causes vomiting. This medication will not treat nausea or vomiting that has already started.
Can you take Emend daily?
Emend is not for long-term use. You will most likely need only 1 to 3 doses. The first dose is usually given 30 to 60 minutes before treatment with chemotherapy. Follow your doctor’s dosing instructions very carefully.
When should I take Emend?
It does not matter if you take EMEND before, with or after food. However, if you are taking the 165 mg capsule, take it either without food or with a light meal. Your doctor will give you one 40 mg capsule of EMEND 3 hours before your surgery. EMEND can be taken with or without food.
