What is varietal purity?
The Varietal Purity analysis is completed in addition to the physical analysis. This test is a visual test used to determine if any seeds of a different variety have been inadvertently mixed with the variety being tested. This test is most commonly completed on soybeans and oats.
What is purity in grains?
Grain size and shape Comparing the length-width ratio of the sample with a published ratio for the variety will give an indication of varietal purity of the grain sample. A significant deviation means that the sample is impure – that is, it is either a different variety or a mixture of varieties.
What is the shape of rice?

How is physical purity calculated?
Usually, the working sample is separated into four parts (pure seeds, other crop seeds, weed seeds, and inert matters) by hand, blowers, or sieves; and the percentage of each component is then calculated by weight (Figure 1).
What is varietal identification?
1. Grow – Out Test. Objective. To determine the genetic purity status of a given seed lot of the notified cultivar / hybrid and the extent to which the sample in question conforms to the prescribed standards.
