What is the purpose of Xeroform dressing?
Use Xeroform Gauze Wound Dressing with Petrolatum to cover and protect low to non-exudating wounds. These wounds include donor sites, lacerations, burns, abrasions, and skin graft sites. The non-adherent design is excellent for maintaining a moist wound environment, while promoting healing.
Does Xeroform have antimicrobial properties?
Bismuth, similar to other metals, has antimicrobial properties. Xeroform® has been used for decades in burn and plastic surgery as a donor site dressing and as a covering for wounds or partial thickness burns. Despite this, the antimicrobial spectrum of Xeroform® remains largely unknown.

What type of dressing is Xeroform?

Xeroform is biocompatible, reduces infection, and enhances healing of burn wounds by preventing desiccation and mechanical trauma.
What can be substituted for Xeroform?
Handmade petrolatum gauze may be a low-cost replacement for Xeroform.
How long can Xeroform stay on?
Commonly used over donor sites to absorb fluids and allow healing. May be kept in place for up to one week and changed as needed for leaking or prior to discharge from hospital.
How long should you use Xeroform?
Used over highly exudative partial thickness burn wounds or over santyl collagenase in which the dressing does not need to be changed every day. Typically, Mepilex may stay in place for 3-5 days.
What can I put over Xeroform dressing?
Apply lotion or moisturizing cream to the areas where you have trimmed off the Xeroform. Don’t cover the Xeroform with other dressings. You don’t have to worry that it will fall off.
